Daddy's Driving

"I'm not a baby anymore!" Those are the words of my daughter as I denied her request to use public transportation yesterday. She and her group needs to go to the house of their schoolmate to finish a project. Hey, she may be sixteen, but she is still my baby.

"So, how do you expect me to get there?", she asked.

"Tell me where, I'll drive you there" was my answer.

"But, I have to learn sometime.".

"Actually," I said, "your mom and I were already thinking about teaching you how to commute. However, I have two issues. One, I trust you, I really do. But I just don't trust everybody else."

"I'll be extra careful when I'm on the road."

"Two, I'm worried about what might happen if you fall asleep while travelling. You know how you fall asleep in the car even if we were barely two blocks away from home."

"But that was because I know that you are with me, and that you are the one driving."

Her answer got me thinking. She easily falls asleep in the car because she feels safe knowing that I was the one driving.

Years ago, I learned to let go of everything and let God "drive" my life. He already knows what we need, and he has a plan to make us prosper, so I let go and let God. I've never felt safer, more secure, knowing that God, our Father, is the one in control. Sometimes we just have to surrender everything for His plan to work.

So, today marks a new chapter in my life. Today, I allowed my daughter ride the jeepney on her own. I have to let her go sometime. I'll just have to trust her, and God.

I'm not worried. Daddy's driving.
