True Disciple

Last 2009, Typhoon Ketsana, local name Ondoy, devastated the island of Luzon in the Philippines. In just over 6 hours, the storm dumped enough flood water to submerge most, if not all, towns in the metro. It left hundreds dead and millions worth of properties destroyed. It was one of the worst calamities we have ever experienced.

Less than three years later, the monsoon came. It trashed the metro for more than a week. It brought about Ketsana like floods, although they came in spurts. However, though the casualties are at a minimal, the damage it inflicted was almost the same. Thank God we were not affected by the floods, though our area became an island surrounded by at least waist deep floods.

As we were going around our area, trying to help those affected by the floods, we noticed that people, after their ordeals,  still managed to smile. They were still praising God for keeping their families safe. Two days after the floods, their lives were pretty much back to normal; as if nothing happened.

What really inspired me was after only three days, some of them even joined us in our ANCOP Global walk to help raise funds for scholars! After all that they have been through, after all their loss, here they are ready and willing to help others in need!

When she heard about her cousin Elizabeth being pregnant, Mary did not hesitate to go to her and serve her for three months before going home. How many of us are willing to do this sacrifice for our brother/sister? During those times, Mary had to walk four to five days through the wilderness just to get to her cousin's house. This is the same road she had to take going home. Did I mention that she herself was pregnant at that time? Think of how uncomfortable it must have been for her to do this in her situation, but she did it non the less.

Mary is the epitome of discipleship, like her son Jesus Christ, who came to serve and not to be served.

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior
