I was talking to my son, about a problem he had encountered, when I got one of the biggest surprise. I asked him what he did to resolve the problem when he said "don't worry dad, I learned from the best!". That caught me off guard. He had learned something from me without even teaching him. Turns out, he was watching my actions and how I would react to certain situations. Later on, I learned that even my daughter does the same thing, observing me and my wife and how we would handle things.
I remember this old milk commercial where Charles Barkley said "parents should be their (children) role models". We, as parents, should be the one to mold our children and teach them about the facts of life.We should be their model, guide and best friend. This means that we should spend more quality time with them.
Of course, we still have to work hard just to make ends meet, but we also have to remember the reason why we are working in the first place. Our kids are growing up fast. Next thing you know, they are already graduating college and ready to live their own lives. Let us make sure that they are well equipped for their next journey in life. Instill in them the same values that were taught to us by our parents and make ourselves available to them whenever they will need us.
The apple does not fall far from the tree. Like father, like son. Like mother, like daughter. We have all heard of these old adages and have accepted their truth throughout the years. I just hope that this will still be true for future generations.
Are we able to produce good fruits?
Matthew 7:17-19 -A good tree always produces good fruit, a rotten tree produces bad fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit and a rotten tree cannot bear good fruit. Any tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown in the fire.
