For what is a man, what has he got? This song is a classic! You can hear it being sung in every karaoke bar you can find. People are even being shot for singing out of tune! Truly, Frankie knows his songs. It is just so sad that he had to send the wrong message to all of his listeners.
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way!
Reading the words from the song, you will notice that it is exactly the opposite of the Lord's Prayer where we say "Thy will be done". Obedience is never easy. It is often being set aside for convenience. It is easier for us to do our own will, instead of the Lord's, simply because it is what WE want. By doing this, instead of glorifying God, we are glorifying ourselves!
Let us pause for a while and reflect on the Lord's prayer.
Matthew 6:9-10 - This is how you are to pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as in heaven.God loves us so much that He allows us to call Him Father. That is the kind of relationship that He wants to have with us. Let us choose to follow the will of the Lord like a child following the will of his father. Let us give back all the glory to God who is always there for us even when we choose not to be.
Lord, let Thy will be done.
